Excel checkboxes and association with data

This is a fairly in depth, difficult task for me that I figured may be simpler than I'm making it out to be and easy for those on here.

I have a spreadsheet that is structured as follows:
Column A is a start time
Column B is an associated end time
Column C is the calculated duration time (B-A).

Now here comes the tricky part.

In column D, I currently have a list of 12 check boxes that correspond to the 12 different components that will be responsible for the calculated duration in Column C.

My requirement is to associate the checked components with the duration value in order to list them and check the averages and specific durations for any number of different combinations of the 12 components.

So if Component 1, Component 3, and Component 7 are all checked, they will be associated with that duration value in that row. And if there is another row with these three components checked, those two sets will be associated and averaged.

This is basically to make it simpler for the end user to be able to check the components, and have an automatic method of quantifying it.

    Thank you so much!

    Hello hokie09,

    Welcome to the Forum!

The solution will be affected by several factors.

    1. What type of check boxes are you using: Forms or Control Toolbox?
    2. Where are they located?
    3. Are you using formulas on the worksheet?
    4. Do you have any data or check boxes in merged cells?

The easiest way to answer all these questions is to post your workbook.
    Sincerely,
    Leith Ross

Re: Excel checkboxes and association with data

I've attached part of what I have been fooling around with so far.

I'm using the checkboxes from the forms toolbar right now.

Currently I have columns E-L hidden as they are connected to TRUE and FALSE values from the checkboxes.

This is where I am sure there is an easier way. I know the controls check boxes are much more diverse, but I still am not sure if they are necessary here.

    Thanks for responding so quickly!
