auto generate number

Morning again all.

Now I have the issue of adding additional rows to a sheet without overwriting existing ones sorted I have another question which relates to submitting additional rows.

I would like the form to generate a unique reference, preferably in the form of ascending numbers. It would need to check the column to make sure no similar number exists and then add in the next number.

Thanks for that but it's not quite what I'm after.

It's essentially when someone submits a new row an independant reference is automatically generated for it.
