Win Loss records copy as dates

I am copying High School wrestling data from the internet. Each wrestler has a win loss record in a single cell: 8-7 for instance. Excel sees this is August 7. There are several ways it comes in:

    10-May <--- this one is actually a 5-10 record
    0 - 0 <---This one is correct.
    19 - 9 <---This one is correct
    Jan-00 --- this one is actually 1-0

Since I have to do this (copy and paste data) many, many times I was wondering if there is a simple way to correct this? Not sure if this is a formula solution or VBA.

I don't care if the result is to put wins in one column and losses in another, or to have them all come out in the Win - Loss format: 4-10. Either way will work for me. If the solution gets me to the 4-10 view in a single cell using text to columns would place it in two cells without any problem....

Try formatting the cells as text before pasting into them

Thanks but that doesn't work at all. Regardless of how I format prior to pasting, or how I paste (values, text, etc) it takes on the format of a date whenever it can. Thinking the easiest way is to paste as text and not html, then do a delimited text to colums. If I didn't have to do this literally a couple hundred times, I would have done that from the get go. Using the text to columns "might" work well, but probably means very carefull checking for errors in all columns as opposed to just the win/loss column.

What we did was create a custom setting in the format cells window and typed in 0-0 into the custom area. Then in the cell you are wanting to enter that info just type in the info without the hyphen in the middle. (i.e. enter 50 for a 5-0 record) It will custom format it so you get it to the format you put in. Hope that helps.

I believe the question is being misinterpret, what he wants to know is when he copies and then pastes the info it is not pasting in the same format as what he copied. what I do is when I had finished entering or pasting Is I go to the heading at the top of the column click on format> number>category>general>format>custom> and
enter d-m or m-d in the general blank window, the numbers then appear exactly the way you had entered or copied. for what ever reason this will fool the excel into thinking that that you are entering a
date as day or month or vice versa
try it if it works yeaaaaa

does it matter how old it is, the problem did not seem resolved, if some one is browsing they will at least have a suggestions to try.
right now there was no answer and sometimes its most helpful to have some suggestions verses No suggestions

It worked for me and so let some one else try it to see if it worked, I was browsing and I saw the post and I thought this was
a perfect time to make a suggestion.
