Search for a record in an Access database?

I have this code that adds records to an Access database from an Excel workbook.
I would like to change this code so it will look for the part number (applied_pn) in the database and only create a record if the part number does not already exist.

Basically I need to search for a record in an Access database, and if it is not found, add a new record to the database.
