    Duplicate Indexer

    Hi,

I am trying a macro which finds the duplicate values in one column and indexes it in another column.

What I am trying to do here is tagging a bunch of one duplicate value to lets say 'A', then another bunch of duplicate values should be tagged to 'B' and so on....Is there a way in doing this?

Please check the attached file. Its an example of what I am trying.

Every unique entry in column B is given a Value in column C and the corresponding duplicates are given same value.
In the attachment, all Manchester United entries in Column B should be assigned same value in Column C.
Same should be with Arsenal entries.

Hope the image is easier to understand.

Thanks for the help in advance!

    Re: Duplicate Indexer

    Thanks Marvin

That really helped but the amount of data I have in one sheet ranges between 20K to25K rows. Pulling down the formulated cell doesn't seems feasible here. Is there a way for a macro around this please?

    Thanks
    Mohsin

    Hi Mohsin,

Instead of pulling down, you can double click the lower right corner of the cell with the formula in it. That will copy the formula all the way to the bottom.
    See http://chandoo.org/wp/2009/06/12/excel-mouse-tricks/ double-click to autofill.

    Re: Duplicate Indexer

    Hi,

this is exactly what i was looking for.
Marvin, I am trying this with urls, it not working, it assigns value to the first unique url and doesn;t do the same for duplicates one. I am attaching the url file for your reference.

    In the file we have:
    Column A: URL's
Column B: extracted url from A using formula, basically everything that comes after '?' in the url in Column A has been removed and I get the url I wanted.
    Column C: Not important
Column D: your formula applied and should display the desired result.

could you please help, I am new to this excel formulas

    Thanks,
    Joseph
