    Total based on column text code

    I have a 50 row account sheet and I would like to total amounts based on a column code. For example sum amounts in column "D" if column "C" has code = "W". Is there a way to do this without using a "if" condition for every row?

    Thanks for the help, the sumif WORKED!
    I have one more tweak I need....

    How do I get text to show up before and after the formula?

    I tried ="text", SUMIF(F7:F53,"W",G7:G53), "more text"
    but it did not work.
