How do I use filter when a column contains combo boxes?

How could I use filter in Excel 2007 to filter out the data when a column contains combo boxes?
Lets say I have a column A in excel wherein I use combo boxes to enter a category - either 1 or 2 or 3.
Now how could I filter column A for the category 1?

    Hi daymaker,

If your "combo boxes" are really Validation Boxes it seems to work for me.

See attached where column A has some validation and you can filter on them.
