Automated text search then data entry problem. (Short time scale though!)

    Morning all,

Thanks for letting me join your little forum, although I can't promise I'll be around too much as my need is quite simple and I have very little time to solve it.

On Saturday I've got to perform a stock take in an Asian supermarket. We can download the data on each product from the EPOS and dump that into excel. Although I don't have a copy, I'm lead to believe that it includes the bar code info. My plan is to search down the barcode column, find the product and enter the qty into a cell either left of right of it.

My question is whether its possible to automate that process somewhat? Something like a search box that you enter the barcode info into, press enter, it finds the cell and moves the cursor into the cell to the right. Once a number is entered the search box appears again and the process is repeated. (hope the makes sense?)

I can find my way Excel pretty well but my knowledge of coding is somewhat limited. I did work with macros when using 2003 but haven't used them in 2007.

Any help someone can give me would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Drew.

P.S. We do have a barcode scanner but I don't know if it works nor if it can be integrated into Excel!

    Hi,

Check attached file what I created for other (similar) thread.
you can tape in A2 numbers but if your source data will be alphanumeric it would be work well too. This script will select always first found ID so be sure that you have not got any duplicates in your files.

    I hope it helps you

    Why thank you sir!

I did search the forums for something along these lines but my search words must have not quite struck that cord.

We'll be using barcodes which contain 12 digits and should be unique. Although we made not need all 12 numbers. How would you go about extending the range of data beyond 4638?

    Drew.
