Problem using "left" function in VBA

Hi. I'm trying to extract only the 2 leftmost characters from the text in cell C2. I tried the procedure below, but when I test it with debug.print, it only prints false. This is part of a larger program, but I can't get past this first problem. Here's the code and I've attached the spreadsheet. Thanks for any help.
