Copy values from previous day, if range matches

    Hi all

I need to create a list of pending items on a daily basis.
(I have attached a very simplified version of this - e.g. I have put two days in one file, whereas in reality I maintain one file per day)

The main problem is that it takes a lot of time formatting the comments for each item - especially when I have the same text for 3 items (I then merge the comment section accross these three lines)
If one of these items are solved the following day it's a pain to demerge the comment, an re-merge it for two lines
(See range A4:E6 for day one (same comment for three items) and range A25:E26 for day two (one of the items has been solved)

--> So, I was wondering whether there is anyway I could get this done automatically - i.e. Excel compares old and new data and inserts (copies) the comment for those lines where there's an indentical match to the previous day.

    Thx
    FD

    Re: Copy

I'm very sorry, I did not complete the thread title properly - meant to write "Copy values from previous day, if range matches"

Sorry about that - maybe an admin could update it?

    Re: Copy

    Hi Teylyn

I expected that to work too - but I can only edit the post, not the topic title - but thanks for changing it

I hope "vlookup" function may work here.

    Hi swapnilsoni
No, not really, because VLoopUp doesn't automatically merge the cells

Merged cells create more problems than solving them. Why dont you have the same comment on both rows for the same text? Then you can easily use vlookup.

I arlu1201 - I know that. Reason is the sometime there are over 100 lines pending for the same thing, and the comments can be very long. Having such a long comment would make the list endless long.

I understand. However, with the merged cells there, i dont see any easy solution to this issue.

Maybe some one else here can throw some light on how to resolve it.
