Code to have dropdown data affect adjacent cell

    Hi everyone,

I'm trying to create some spreadsheets for work and was wondering if you could help me with a formula (there are a lot of convoluted tutorials out there which have proved way too hard to decipher!). Here is my situation:

I have 2 columns, which I'll refer to as A and B. In A I have all the cells linked with a drop-down menu with the numbers 1 to 20. In B, I'd like either "Yes" or "No" to be displayed, based on what number I select in A. e.g. If I choose "15" in the drop-down menu in A, then "Yes" will appear in the adjacent cell, but if I switch it to "16" then "No" will appear.

Any help would be great appreciated, thanks so much in advance!

    Re: Quick Question!

Please change the thread-title to something that describes your problem.

What is the rule for assigning "Yes" or "No"?
    Sincerely

    Re: Quick Question!

Sorry about that, and thank you for the reply!

Regarding the rule, I'm quite embarrassed to say this but I don't quite understand what you mean; please bear with me as I'm fairly new at all of this! Perhaps if I explain my need better it could help.

Essentially I'm creating a tracking tool for a project at work. The numbers in my "A" column (1 - 20) reflect the number of weeks that the project is going to take to finish for all of my staff. Once one of my staff has submitted their work for that week number, I'd like my "B" column to display "Yes", which I can manually input. However, for all of the following weeks, I'd like the B column to still display as "No" once selected from the dropdown menu in A (or if a staff has fallen behind in their work, it can still display "No" for that week or the previous weeks).

Any suggestions for something I can try out, or even links to basic tutorials that can help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry again for being so new at all of this :p!

Re: Code to have drowdown data affect adjacent cell

It sounds like you need a drop-down list containing "Yes" and "No" where "No" is the default-input, or am I missing something? Do you have a sample workbook you could attach, since I'm not sure I completely understand what you want to accomplish?

Re: Code to have drowdown data affect adjacent cell

This is a quick mock-up, identical to what I've started. Once the "Week Number" is selected, I'd like the "Submitted" column to either show "Yes" or "No". Currently we're in week 1, so once a staff submits their work I'll have it show "Yes" when week 1 is selected. However, once week 2 is selected, it should show "No" (and so on for all of the following weeks).

The solution that you suggested sounds like it may do the trick! Can you explain how to set this up?

Thank you very much for your patience as well, it's greatly appreciated!

So, something like the attached? But when you change the weeknumber the "Submitted" column changes to "No"?
