How to create a permanently read-only spreadsheet

I have a business document that I want to create as a permanently read-only spreadsheet. I'm aware of the right-click, read-only option, but if I am then so are some savvy users. I'd like to know if it's possible to create a file for distribution which can not be reset to an editable version. All help would be appreciated.

Create a .pdf of the file and protect the .pdf when distributing.
You retain control of the underlying data and can simply distribute versions of the .pdf file when you update the data.

Thanks. That's a simple and effective solution.

    Hi,

How about password protecting all sheets and not allowing users to select any of the cells?
Whilst not 100% proof against any really savvy user googling for a password cracker macro this may be sufficient for you.

    Hi,

From memory since I'm away from home and don't have access to XL 2003 I think it's Format Sheet Protect, choose a password and then just make sure every option is unticked.

No doubt someone will correct if I've misremembered.

Thanks. That will definitely work to create an uneditable Excel file.
