    Parsing and mapping data

I have two columns with slightly different content.

    For example
    Column C has C:\code drop\NSM 25-07-2012 (Drop 3)\NSM 25-07-2012\App_Code\IDcardGeneration.cs
    Column A has C:\team projects\NSM\web\NSMLive\Web\Shared\IDcardGeneration.cs

Something like Search column C and A for "IDcardGeneration.cs" string , when search string is found then insert that into column B of the of the same row where it appears in column A.

I need to do this for a excel file with thousands of entries

    Thanks

    Hello mhallman,

    Welcome to the Forum!

Will you be searching all entries for the same string?
Where does the search value come from?
    Sincerely,
    Leith Ross

Here's some simple code that does what I think you want. It assumes that there are no blanks in column A.

    Re: Parsing and mapping data

I want to search column A and column C. When there is a match file name then I want to add the associated directory on the same row as the matched file in column A. I have attached file for reference.

    Hello mhallman ,

Thanks for posting the sample file. Unfortunately, I do not follow what you want to do. If you can provide a before and after example of how this works, I would appreciate it.

Take a look at the screen capture. This is the end result. I have the new directory structure in column A and want to find a match in column C. I do this manually now. Then I take that directory structure and paste it in column B. This is very time consuming.

    Re: Parsing and mapping data

    Hello mhallman ,

The file name is what needs to match in column "A" and "C" and then copy "C" into "B" if they match, is that correct?
Will there ever be more that one match?

    Hello mhallman ,

Since I didn't hear back from you, I went ahead and created a macro based on what I believe you want to do. The macro below has been added to a button on the "mappiing" worksheet. The attached workbook has all the changes added.
