Excel - Vlookup and ignore custom format

    Hello...

I have possibly a very simple problem. I am using the formula =today() with a custom format of "mmmm" to basically show the current month in the cell in text format - "September".

However, I want to then Vlookup the result but it won't work because it doesn't recognise the format.

Is there a way around this because if I was to convert September to text it would be a number like 99124 or something...

    Many Thanks,

    Adam

Are you trying to lookup a value based on today's date or just September?

If specific to today's date then you shouldn't have any problem as Excel will look at the value recorded in the cell and not the way it is displayed. Formatting will have no effect on this.

If you're trying to look up just September then you'll have to have a rethink as Excel will be trying to look up today's date only.

ok thanks, what I've done is just hidden a cell that looks up september and converts it to a number, I then vlookup the number to find the correct data. Many Thanks.
