Thanks for you post Sindhus by creating a duymmy set of data i was able to see my mistake! ( I had locked out some columns on one of the sheets so was not able to compare the right ranges.)

I have now sorted my code and came up with this lot of code, which has some extras! It will ask you to click on the cell in a sheet to gain the sheet name. It then asks what other workbook you want to compare with and then the column number. It then updates any cells that are different to the other worksheet.
