Excel stuck after unlocking Visual Basic Editor

I have a workbook with a password to view the project properties (visual basic editor). Everything is fine and dandy after opening the files: cells can be modified, all macros can be run, userforms can be opened and used. The problem starts after unlocking the visual basic editor: the first change to any sheet (by changing the value in a cell or running a macro) causes Excel to freak out.

The status bar at the bottom keeps flashing "calculating" and "processing" in the bottom right, and the bottom left keeps flashing "ready" and "calculating". Any control over the entire Excel instance is lost.

This problem does not occur when having removed the password entirely from the workbook or by just opening the editor: it only happens after unlocking the editor. There is no worksheet_change macro on any of the sheets and there are no circular references.

edit: I have done some testing and it is related to a particular version of this workbook

Has anyone experienced this before or have an idea of what might be causing this?

    Thank you for your time,
    MrsAlice

Re: Excel stuck after unlocking Visual Basic Editor

    Update:
I got around to testing it a bit more and it turns out the problem is limited to my computer: it runs fine on other machines. I will update this post and mark this thread as solved if reinstalling Excel fixes the problem. This post is intended to prevent people from spending time on looking into it .

Excel reinstall did not fix it. Windows 7 reinstall did.
