You can do it with Conditional Formatting...
Select the column go to Home|Conditional Formatting, select New Rule.
Then select Use formula to determine which cells to format and enter a formula like:
=COUNTIF(A:A,A1)>1
where column A is the column you selected.
Click Format and choose from Fill tab.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

Why don't you use conditional formatting option "format only unique or duplicate values" ?
