Aftersave macro. adding a date to cell when the sheets protected

Im getting an error as the sheet is protected.

'run time error 1004

the cell or chart that you are trying to change is protected therefore read-only
to modify a protected cell or chart first remove protection....'


is there a way to unprotect the sheet while this macro runs?
