This will ask you for the destination path and the file name you want to specify while saving.Sub WBSave() Dim Dest, FName As String Dest = InputBox("Paste the location where you want to save the file") & "\" FName = InputBox("Enter the name of the file") ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:=Dest & FName ActiveWorkbook.Close End Sub

instead of copying and pasting, could i just run a macro that automatically triggers the F12 button in excel?

You mean have a button that will activate the macro?
yes essentially i want a button that when pressed, when activate an action that is the same as file > save as. that is what f12 button does in excel.
