Procedure to find average of grades when alphabet grades are given

Hello forum members,

we are few rows with grades of students either "A" , "B" or "C" per each subject and "a" for absent/leave.

the value of "A" is 3 and "B" is 2 and "C" is 1.

example
English Maths Science Average
Student1 A B C ?

Student2 a A A ?

Student3 B B B ?

How to find the average of this

Well, you could do this, and hide the calculation rows if you want to make it nice and neat. See my attached sheet. It uses the CODE and LOOKUP functions to return numeric results. Then averages them.
