    Application, WorksheetFunction or both?

As a macro Newbie is there a rule as to when to use Worksheetfunction.whatever, Application.whatever and Application.worksheetfunction. Whatever?

It seems a bit haphazard with excel only liking certain combinations for certain functions

application.worksheetfunction.whatever and worksheetfunction.whatever they both are the same, it is just that, worksheetfunction.whatever is just the short name for application.worksheetfunction.whatever

Yes, you can combine application.whatever and application.worksheetfunction.whatever together since application.whatever and worksheetfunction.whatever serve completely different purpose.
