Adding totals that meet a text and a data criteria

    Hello

Column A has dates, Column B has a list of codes (drop down list), and Column C has the totals. I have a summary grid on a separate worksheet where I want to add the totals for each month for each of the codes as and when the table is updated with data.

    Column A Column B Column C
    10/04/2012 38320 Adaptations 18.00
    20/05/2012 33312 Systems 150.00
    10/04/2012 38320 Adaptations 60.00

I've tried SUMIFS and SUMPRODUCT, but its always the date part of the formula I am getting stuck on.

Much appreciate you help on this.

Are your dates really text values that happen to look like dates? If they are Excel-format dates then you should be able to do this in C2 of your summary sheet:

    Formula: copy to clipboard

where in A2 you have the date of the 1st of the month that you are interested in (eg 1/1/2012) but you might format that cell as "mmm-yy" for example. Adjust the ranges in the formula to suit your data, then copy down.

    Hope this helps.

Thumbs up Re: Adding totals that meet a text and a date criteria

Thank you very much this has helped me out big time. Its finally worked!!!! It was in fact the 'date' field as opposed to the 'data' field I was referring to in the thread. I set the date column to dd/mm/yy and adjusted the ranges to suite my table and the formula above worked to my satisfaction.
    Thanks again.
