    Question Combine two sheets

    Dear fellow forum members,

I have to equal sheets (dates in column A and Tickers in row 1) that choose stocks with two different metrics (gives the return from a returns sheet for a ticker in a given period if the metric statement is true).
I now want to combine those two metrics, is there a way to combine/consolidate the selections from the two sheets in a new sheet, where the returns from either the one or the other shows up, and in the unlikely event that the two are the same that it only will return the returns from that month once (i.e. a simple addition won't work..)

    Hope this makes sense..

    Many thanks for any input.

    Best,

    Re: Combine two sheets

So I think I managed to merge the two metric sheets with the following code

Please Login or Register to view this content.
Where StoryLongA is the sheet with the absolute change metric and StoryLongR is the sheet with the relative change metric (other than that they have the same layout).
However, if i look at the absolute metric it suggests 23 stocks long and 22 stocks short, and the relative metric suggests 22 stocks long and 23 stocks short. I would therefore expect the combined sheet to suggest 23 long and 23 short, however this is not the case; it actually returns 23 long and 22 short. Any clues as to why the above code does not work as wanted..?

    Re: Combine two sheets

    To clarify:
I created a simple example of what I am trying to achieve; If both cells in one instance (eg. A1) is blank I want the result in Sheet 3 A1 to be blank, if there is a number in Sheet1!A1 and not in Sheet2!A1 I want that number - and vice versa, and lastly if the number is in both Sheet1!A1 and Sheet2!A1 I want that number (in my case it doesn't matter from which sheet, as the numbers will be the same..).

As you can see the approach I have used so far has a bias towards the one Sheet that is listed first in the formula, any clues on how to fix this...?
