    How to use filter with merged cells

    I have a databse of product information and the database should be flexible to filter the data
    But the problem is that the main cells (colum A-W) are merged.
    What I want to do is for ex:
    In column D (Site Name), I choose Tuolumne, all the Tuolumne details (X4:X13 to Column BT) will also show up and not only row 4, 14, 26 and 41
    Is there a work around on this? And if not, do you have any suggestion to reformat my database so the same concept of information will still be seen when I filter the data.

    1. Unmerge the cells E4:E13
    2. In cells E5 put =E4 and paste down to E13
    3. Change the number format in E5:E13 to -> Custom -> ;;;

    Copy E4:E13 and paste formats/formula's down through each record in the database

    Now when you filter for Tuolumne - it will show all specifics for that site ....

    you'll have to unmerge the cells and fill in the blank cells with the same information for each row (I feel this would be more suited to a database)

    Hi,

    Thanks for your interest in my post, I tried to follow your instructions but it seems it did not work
    when I choose Tuolumne the X4:X13 to BV are still being filtered.

    I attached a copy of my excel with the changes you suggested

    It's not working because you have other merged rows in other columns
    That's very naughty database design......

    You are going to have to unmerge everything within the data table ... Headers are not so important.
