Is there a way to pull data from a SQL Database into Excel automatically?

Hello,

I'm a novice when it comes to anything like this but basically, is there a way I can make excel look into a SQL table for the data it needs and update the excel automatically?

I have a friend who is good with Java and SQL but doesn't know how to make it auto update excel. Any ideas?
