Sorting cells based on their contents

    Hello,

I have to write a macro to separate a total of 77 different projects into columns and rows based on the five identifying characters that precede the project's name (and the macro must be made so that future projects can be sorted when added). Here is an example:

    1FGSA_X4X8X16_AllInOne

I need to separate them based on the number in front (1) to separate them into rows, as well as the two letters at the end (SA) to separate them into columns. I just need to get an idea of where to begin and then I can work with the other 72 projects I have. If someone could help me out and use the 5 examples below to show me how to separate them into different columns and rows based on their contents, I would be very greatful. With these 5 projects, there should be 2 different rows (1 & 2) and 3 different columns (SA, VE, & DI). Any ideas?

    1FGSA_X4X8X16_AllInOne
    1FGVE_BlueZone_EnviCat
    1FGVE_Krenz_UVC_Gen6
    2RGDI_Multi-Dispense-Station
    2RGSA_Eco3Ice_XTS

Thank you shg, that should be enough for me to figure it out. If I have any more questions, I'll be sure to post them later!
