skip numbering on mac excel 2011

i have column A with numbers sequential from 1, in column B i want '4' to appear as a skip number from A1 (1), i then want cell C1 to skip again to 7. so the formula is going across the row 1 as follows: 1,4,7,10 etc, then row 2 will be as follows: 2,5,8,11 and row 3 will be 3,6,9,12, and so on down the sheet. I then want to be able to change the skip, so sometimes i can skip 1 number or maybe 2 or 3 or 4 in between?

    any suggestions greatfully received????

    thanks

you can use a cell (z1 for instance) as the input for the step then enter
    =A1+$Z$1
in b1 and fill right and down

if at first you don't succeed try doing it the way your wife told you to

Re: skip numbering on mac excel 2011

    thanks, now what if i wanted the results that appeared across the columns to actually appear in row form, so row B1 = 1, B2 = 4, B3 = 7 ETC, THEN C1 = 2, C2 = 5, C3 = 8, etc etc going down the column.?

    thanks

Re: skip numbering on mac excel 2011

you've gotta put a step value into Z1-3 for instance.
I thought you had row 1 populated-if you don't and you want it all to flow from B1 put =B1+1 in C1 and copy that across to the right (don't fill this down-leave the old formulas)

Re: skip numbering on mac excel 2011

    sample3.xlsx

cool beans. thanks. last issue, see Y & Z columns now on attached, is there a way i can take the result in Z4 and automatically remove below the rows below that number so when i copy and paste the row into another application im not copying the numbers i dont require. i.e. from row 250 i wont require, but that will change dependent on result in Z4.

    thanks in anticipation!
