Why does the spreadsheet not open?

Hello folks. I've been baffled by difficulties in opening a spreadsheet attachment sent to me in an email.

When I click on the attachment, it tries to launch the Excel button as you'd expect - but it doesn't actually load the contents/spreadsheet. Even when it's saved to Dropbox it does not load.

I use Microsoft Excel for Mac 2011, version 14.4.2.

I've had a similar problem with Word documents but although I'm getting a message ("The Open XML file ..... cannot be opened because problems with the content or file name might contain invalid characters (eg \ /)" the file does eventually open.

I don't have the same luck with my Excel attachments. Can anyone tell me what's going wrong and how I can fix the problem?

    Thanks.

    Dwelly

Are you getting an error message when you try to open this excel document?

I'm not sure if this is the issue that you are having, but I have one document at work that when it opens, the file is open but none of the contents are showing. I've found out that in order to show the contents, I need to go to the "View" tab on the ribbon and click "Enable".
