Google Sheets: Populate data into a column based on data from another column

I'm working on a spreadsheet to calculate my crypto taxes.

Do you know about a way to populate the traded assets into "Overview Profit/loss!A:A" automatically based on "TAX!A:A"?
What I want the "Overview Profit/loss!A:A" to look like is like this:

    A2: BTC
    A3: ETH
    A4: LTC
    A5: etc.

It should only be populated if they was traded within a selected year.

    See the attached workbook.

The attached workbook is throwing errors.

Could you please remove the links to external APIs that are irrelevant to this query and post again?

Yes, it's because of an unstable connection to the API. Here's a new version with the API error removed.

Have you removed the API connection altogether?

Members should not have to open files that connect to the Internet to be able to help you.

Yes, the API connection is removed completely. It's not part of the problem I'm needing help for.

I know. I said that in post #2.

    OK - I will have a look.

Re: Populate data into a column based on data from another column

Sorry - it's still throwing an error message asking if I trust the source of the file. This means there are still live external links.

I will not continue and open the file anyway: I cannot take that risk. I am sure you understand.

Copy the relevant stuff to a blank workbook and attach that here.

OK - we are getting there - slowly.

Please manually fill in the 2017 results table so that we know what we are aiming for.

What I want is to populate the traded assets into "Overview Profit/loss!A:A" automatically based on "TAX!A:A". It need to be filtered based on the year they've been traded.

What I want the "Overview Profit/loss!A:A" to look like is like this:
    A2: BTC
    A3: ETH
    A4: LTC
    A5: etc.

As of now I just typed them in manually to show you the example in the workbook. But tt should only be populated if they was traded within a selected year (based on Tax Sheet).

I still see no manually calculated results in the attachment to post #8. You will need to delete it and re-upload - it's not a dynamic link.

You don't need to see any results. I just want to populate a list based on the "Tax!A:A" and filtered on date.

Re: Populate data into a column based on data from another column

    OK.

In that case, you need to tell me which items in the master list count as having traded in 2017.

What calculation would you use for the amount and profit/loss fields?

Re: Populate data into a column based on data from another column

You can see that from the sheet "Tax". But I made it easier for you and made a new workbook.
Remember that this spreadsheet has two sheets:
    - Groceries
    - Yearly traded Groceries

    What want is:
I want a formula that makes a list of traded items into the sheet "Yearly traded groceries" based on the year they've been traded.

If a Banana and Pear has been traded in 2018, then "Banana" and "Pear" should appear in the "Yearly traded groceries" under year 2018.

Re: Populate data into a column based on data from another column

Is this what you are looking for?

    Excel 2016 (Windows) 32 bit
    A
    1
List of groceries traded in 2017
    2
    Apple
    3
    Banana
    4
    Pear
    5
    Orange
    Sheet: Yearly traded grocercies

You are making this hard going. Why you are so unwilling to answer simple questions asked by somebody who is trying to help you I just do not know.

You know exactly what you want, and are therefore making the mistake of assuming it must be obvious to everybody else. To be clear: I am not stupid. I don't need it dumbing down. I just want my questions answered. You are the one asking for help, remember.

I'm sorry, that was not my intention. I was just thinking you misunderstood me, so I tried to make it easier to understand.

What you show above is exactly what I'm looking for

Re: Populate data into a column based on data from another column

OK, so attached is a PowerQuery solution. Have a look at column E on the summary sheet. It's a basic solution - tell me what else from the master sheet you want to see there and I will adapt it. When you are happy, I will tell you how to do it.

Re: Populate data into a column based on data from another column

Thank you. Seems like the Power Query solution can't be added to my Google Sheets. When I am importing the sheet it loses the formulas.

Regarding your other question about if I need anything else, I think I got the help from the other thread with the SUMIFS. So it's just this list I need now before reaching my goal

OK - so you have posted in the Excel section, so how were we to know this was for Google Sheets? What did I miss?

I will move this to the correct section for you, but I can't help, as I don't use Google Sheets. Sorry.
