Default Currency Symbol

Hello all, while using a MAC with Excel, I have an issue where every single time I have to change the currency symbol from "US$" (shown as, for example, US$ 3,253) instead of "$ English (en-US)" (Shown as, for example, $3,253).
this is very disturbing since each time I pivot or need to show data in Dollars, I have to manually change it.
I tried everything I could, changing the default currency of my mac, changing the default currency of Excel, nothing helped.
I'd also want to try and make the decimal Place as "0" as default as well. is it possible?

Are you looking for an answer on Mac? Or are you still using XL2003?
