Mac Excel 2011 - How To Create Shortcuts When Entering Variables

    Hi, everyone!

    I'd love some help!

Using the Mac version of Excel I've created a spreadsheet with multiple formulas. Each cell and formula within is similar to...

    =0.25*1

...where the value of 25 is constant and the number 1 is variable.

To date I have been editing this variable by changing its value in the formula bar. This, however, becomes tedious (and prone to error) as there are several dozen such variables inside cells to change.

A better solution would be to simply click on that cell, =0.25*1, enter a new variable into the cell itself, and have the cell display a new value.

Is it possible to program/set up Excel to do this?

It would be much simpler to store the constant value in one cell, the variable in another and have the result as a separate formula cell.

    Thank-you for your reply, romperstomper!

    Each equation is different, too.

I've attached an example... I have a spreadsheet with lines and lines similar to it. Rather than click away in the formula bar it would be much easier to tab from one cell to another, changing the the variable, without having Excel change the formula.

In my equations the constant is always =x* and the variable y.

That example doesn't really give any indication as to what is constant or what is variable but as a general guideline, it's a bad idea to hardcode numbers into formulas for precisely this reason. Your constant value should be stored in one cell, your variable values in separate cells and your formula cells then simply multiply the two (or perform whatever your real calculation is). You can then change any input cell and the formulas do the work for you.
