    always lost

I am a retired truck driver from New York City who moved to outside of Austin, TX.

I've taken a fill-up-the-time job transporting the residents of a senior living facility where they need to go. There are more than 100 such facilities throughout the nation that are managed by corporate headquarters.

There are occasions when, in between trips, I help out at the front desk. They use Excel for everything. It's loaded on every terminal in the facility (Office 2010, w/o Access). It is at HQ where the network is managed by the IT Dept..

As was said, they use Excel for everything: except keeping track of the transportation scheduling. That is done with three different loose leaf binders!!(?)

Accordingly I am attempting to write VBA routine to automate the scheduling process. I am new to Excel and new to programming of any kind so I am like the comedian who goes around the comedy circuit stealing jokes; going around the web stealing and adapting code.

The code should, in the end, consist entirely of dialog boxes, input boxes and user forms through which the users (front desk people) will enter all data. There will be no entries into this workbook except through prompts. This is because some of the front desk folks know less about Excel than I do and are only vaguely acquainted with the rules governing the use of the bus. The latter has resulted in elderly residents walking away from the desk believe that reservation has been made for a ride to the doctors office when the bus is scheduled to be doing something that would not allow that trip to be made.

    So far the code:
    finds an entered apartment number
finds the first unoccupied cell in the apt's row
enters, from user input, the appointment date after testing that it is the proper day of the week, then,
the appointment time after testing if that comports with the schedule,
    the doctor's name and address
and prints a confirmation slip for the resident to refer to.
the code also gives the front desk the ability to cancel a reservation and, soon, to edit one.

That's as far as it has progressed.

Each step of the way there were problems to overcome.

I hope the people on this board can help with specific problems as they arise (posted in the appropriate sub-forum).

There you have it : another amateur who has waded into waters above his head crying for someone to save him!!
