How do I save windows resizing and other settings in Windows Explorer?

Something happened, a crash or something and now all my windows come up default with the file preview section taking up 90% of the space.
I recall seeing there was some trick to saving the setting, holding down shift or control or something when closing the window. Does anyone have any tips?

Ok, so I found the answer to the preview sizing part at least. It's very simple, resize your preview pane, close the preview pane and then close the window. When you open the window again and open the preview pane it will have remembered your setting.
