My words/excel/pdf filenames have an extension .doc,.xls,.pdf adhered. If I delete these extension, the file will not be read.

How can I delete this extension from filename?

The extension tells the Operating System which program to use to process/open the file. Delete the extension and the file is useless.

    you can hide file extensions.

in the folder options menu go to the view tab. in the list there is a tick box for "hide extensions for know files types". tick this and the .exe or .doc part of the file will be hidden leaving just the name but preserving the link to the required programme.
2+2=5 for extremely large values of 2.

    Re: Delete extension of filename

If you select the file in Windows Explorer

Start / (Right click start), then click explore
Find your file (Drill down to it)
Click on it so it do selected
    Right Click
    Rename
Deleted the last 4 characters ie .doc or .pdf and press return

The Word0 icon associated to *.doc is replace with un-know Windows file association icon ie folded paper icon with a blue box in it and red / blue / green spot in side the box

now you cant double click the file to get an application to open it - you will need to select the file / right click and open with

This assumes you have in the folder's options show extensions (know file types) selected to 'on'
