Power BI Date Column Sorting

Hi, I have a date column over multiple years, date format dd / mm/ yyyy ,

I've have just tried sorting 'ascending' , which does not give the correct results, I've tried soring by another column, so first year but this returned a circular error message, are dates in pbi not the same as excel, there's a lot of information, but none seem to explain what's going on, it may say sort by month number but if it's more than one year will this work.

They are 'real dates' , I have since got it to sort the dates, I thin what I was doing wrong was sorting the dates, but then sorting the 'day' by weekday number which seemed to throw everything wrong, I have since built one starting in pq with an index column , base 0, so this should be a uniqe identifier for each date, I can't attach the file as it's pbi.

if you have any advice on building sorting date table I'd be grateful, will leave this open for a while.

I had n't marked it solved as I thought I might get some more suggestions,
