    Top 3rd, Middle 3rd or Bottom 3rd???

    Hello again Excel geniuses,

If you would be kind enough to help me solve this final challenge, my project will be complete.

Incidentally, I'm a volunteer who runs a snooker league handicap system and this spreadsheet when completed and working properly is going to save me hours (if not days) of inputting time, so thank you in advance.

    The challenge

    Column A contains provisional handicaps.

I need a formula for Column B which returns T, M or B, to show if the provisional handicap (Column A) is in the top third, middle third or bottom third.

As always, many thanks for looking at this for me.

    Bob

Using PERCENTILE spill formula in cell B5: =IF(A5:A92<=PERCENTILE(A5:A92,1/3),"B",IF(A5:A92<=PERCENTILE(A5:A92,2/3),"M","T"))

Re: Top 3rd, Middle 3rd or Bottom 3rd???

It depends on the context. In terms of performance, aiming for the top 3rd is usually desirable, indicating excellence or achievement. However, being in the middle 3rd can also signify stability or average performance, which may be appropriate depending on the situation. The bottom 3rd typically suggests room for improvement or areas that need attention to move up.
