Excel locking up when Outlook Exchange offline

Hi,

When I use excel to get outlook to send an E-mail and Outlook is on a network and using exchange and
outlook is running but disconnected to exchange - excel locks up. In fact all excel applications (Workbooks) running have
locked up.

Can someone show me how to have excel check to see if outlook is connected to exchange before attempting to have outlook send e-mail
