How about Mods delete blatant plagiarism?

I tend not to post a 'solution' to a problem where one already exists. Why solve a problem that doesn't exist anymore?

However nothing is more worthy of an eyeroll than where someone posts a 'solution' which is clearly copied from one above.

How about the mods jump on this with the same vigour they jump on the trivial stuff like quoting a post above, and delete the 'copy'?

While you're at it why not ban comments like 'VBA for beginners/starters' and 'Entry level VBA for the novice' and stuff like that?
It is condescending, arrogant, and, I would think, irritating for anyone seeking a solution to a problem.

Unless you're fanatical about refreshing the thread before you post a solution, it's entirely possible to develop the same solution to a problem and post it, only to find that it's already there.

I've inadertently done that many times. I tend to leave my solution there, and not delete it. If I do refresh and see that "my" solution is already there... I tend to walk away and find another thread.

I'm not sure what you mean by "quoting a post above, and delete the 'copy'?"

Apart from the last paragraph which I think I recognise, do you have some specific examples?

If a solution is simple and straightforward, it is quite possible that more than one person will post the same or a very similar answer (at almost the same time).

And I have learned an awful lot from seeing different approaches to a problem.

Has something in particular irritated you enough to prompt this post? I can't see the Mods being able to, or wanting to, take up the challenge.

    1. I'm not going to trawl through posts just to find examples. They exist.
    2. I'm not talking about posts which are made soon after another. I'm talking about blatant rip offs, sometimes days later.
    3. "Quoting a post above"? When a mod says rubbish like "Don't quote unnecessarily". If someone quotes, they obviously think it is necessary for clarification. I'm saying pursue the rip offs with the same enthusiasm.
    4. "Delete the copy'? Delete the post that is obviously copied from one before.
    5. If I developed an independent solution which even looked remotely like one above, I'd delete it (unless there was good reason not to) purely because I'd be embarrassed for anyone to think I'd stoop to copying someones idea posted just a few posts above, and then have the kahunas to claim it as my own.

This happened to me only the other day - I left my solution, but immediately added to my post that I realised that the solution had already been offered and apologised. I hope this isn't what has sparked this annoyance. If it's not this, then some examples would be helpful.

While you're at it why not ban comments like 'VBA for beginners/starters' and 'Entry level VBA for the novice' and stuff like that?

I completely agree and this has been reported frequently by several members. I have on more than one occasion contacted the perpertrator to ask him not to do it and explained why (as he is not a native English speaker), but he will not desist. I have also reported it to the admins - as far as I am aware, nobody else has tackled it (but I may be wrong on this).

If you would like to use the REPORT POST button when you next see one, I will happily pursue it. As for quoting, many people do it unnecessarily - they hit the Reply with Quote button instead of Quick Reply, and it becomes clutter.

Speaking personally, I haven't seen examples of this.

Speaking personally, I almost never do this, as it is not a forum rule.

If the perpetrator does "not desist" why is he not banned? I have been banned on a number of occasions purely for disagreeing with a mod's point of view and raising a discussion about it!

Ask the admins. I have done what I can. He isn't actually breaking any rules per se. However, I am pretty sure that he has had one temporary ban in the past.

Hopefully they'll see this and respond. I can't speak for them, obviously.

You could PM them directly, however.

    @Croweater
What you are asking is for is a "Big Ask" for volunteer moderators to police every single posting in this forum. That is not going to happen. As a moderator and contributor I only look at threads that may be of interest to me. I do not look at every single thread/post. Your ask is not feasible. Let it go. It appears that you are wanting to use my Avatar.

Re: How about Mods delete blatant plagiarism?

OK,just to be clear, I am not asking them to "police every single posting in this forum". I am saying that they should discourage (when they see it) 'very similar' solutions offered more than once.

I mean, they seem to notice infractions of the rules with great fervour, and sometimes even rules that aren't rules!

What do you mean "Let it go"? This thread is entitled "Suggestions for improvement" isn't it? That's exactly what I'm doing!

And I don't understand what you mean by me wanting to use your avatar...I couldn't care less about avatars.

I think that we have heard your concerns and the Admins will take it under consideration. The Horse is dead and no need to continue to beat it. I am closing this thread as I see no further need for discussion.

Re: How about Mods delete blatant plagiarism?

I know this thread is closed, but...

If you cant post examples, Im not wasting my time on your apparent unfounded accusations.

I see no problem at all with posting a different solution to an already answered question - everyone has their own view of the same situation, and just because an answer was provided, doesnt mean it's the only 1...or even the best 1. Some people also like to try their own way of solving a problem, and can then use the initial solution to cross-check themself.

in closing, we have 100 000's of members on this forum, and none make the complaints that you make. Now, while im not saying your complaints are groundless, wouldnt you think that if it was a big concern, others would raise their voices too?
