Issue -- cannot embed uploaded image in post

I have uploaded an image. I'm posting in a forum that allows image tags. I click the image button and paste the URL of the uploaded image and get an error message.

    "Error. Invalid file"

If I cannot insert an image from a URL, why is the option to insert an image active in the toolbar?

We used to be able to insert an uploaded image into a post, if the forum allowed images. Now it no longer works.

Please restore the functionality that was available before the "upgrade"

    thanks,

    Testing

Attached three files to this post.

Now trying to embed them by using the "Insert Image" icon in the toolbar.

    Test 1: PNG file.
    - click "Insert Image" icon
    - click "From URL" tab
    - paste image URL as copied from "Attached Images" list below. The address is
    http://www.excelforum.com/attachment...4&d=1329381402
    - Get error message "error: Invalid file"

    Test 2: GIF file
    - click "Insert Image" icon
    - click "From URL" tab
    - paste image URL as copied from "Attached Images" list below. The address is
    http://www.excelforum.com/attachment...5&d=1329381402
    - Get error message "error: Invalid file"

    Test 3: JPG file
    - click "Insert Image" icon
    - click "From URL" tab
    - paste image URL as copied from "Attached Images" list below. The address is
    http://www.excelforum.com/attachment...6&d=1329381421
    - Get error message "error: Invalid file"

So, either I don't understand how it works or the issue has not been fixed.

Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

    cheers,

    T,
You need to uncheck the 'retrieve remote file and embed locally' option.
    Good luck.

    Well, here's for discoverability.

Yes, it works when unticking the box. Thanks for the detective work, Rory Holmes.

Vai, by which means of non-verbal, non-written, non-communicated instructions do you expect people to get how this works? ESP? Osmosis?

Where are the instructions/help files/user manuals on how to use this forum, just for the unlikely case that the forum works as it is supposed to?

How are we meant to figure out the difference between an RTFM and a bug? Seeing that an RTFM is only valid if there is an M in the first place. So, where is it?

It's not so much RTFM as WTFM...

Re: Issue -- cannot embed uploaded image in post

    Hey all,

When images are visible in the post (and not available as links), it is utilizing a lot of bandwidth and server processor resources. Hence to preserve these resources, this option has been disabled. Users can embed images but as links, not directly in the post.

Please check again and revert if you face issues.
