    Answered thread listed as Unanswered

The OP posted this thread at 7:00pm May 26
    http://www.excelforum.com/excel-gene...e-premium.html

The same OP posted this thread 5 minutes later:
    http://www.excelforum.com/excel-gene...e-premium.html

At about 7:35 I opened the 2nd post (which showed 0 replies) in order to mark it as 'duplicate' but I saw that a response was made to this post at 7:16
I then went to the 1st post and marked it as being duplicate even though it was posted 1st.

At 8:35 the 7:05 post was still showing as 0 replies even though that 1 response was there and the 7:00 post was showing as 1 reply (mine).
I checked the 'Unanswered Thread' listing and the 7:05 post (with the 1 reply) was there.

EDIT: when submitting this post it hesitated long enough to bring up "Server Error" message - try again later. But when I checked later this post had, in fact, been received.

And, indeed, this thread shows no answers even though FDibbins has replied to it.

TMS your post is showing up in the count when i checked it now.

The tech team informed that they faced some update issues during the backup that happens on the weekend India time. Hence, these small issues.
Everything should be restored within a short while.

Yes, i have spoken to the tech team regarding this. I am not getting emails to my subscriptions too. They are working on it and should be fixed soon.

@Arlette: thanks for the update. The point is, it wasn't working when Cutter reported it; it wasn't working when FDibbins updated it; and it still wasn't working when I added my comments ... although it was shortly afterwards.

Also fyi, there were database errors last night.

If no-one reports the issues, I wonder how you get to know about them? Do you have any software monitoring the database and forum and automatically raising an alert with the Tech Team? Do you pro-actively update the home page to make users aware of the problems, of the fact that you know about them, and that you are working on them, ideally with an ETA?

Edit: incidentally, this post is shown as #8 but the replies count shows as 6 ... so, one out.

    Regards, TMS

    I had problems yesterday too!
As for monitoring..etc it's all automatic, when the server goes down or faults you get emails (well i do from mine) and when database faulst vbulletin generates emails (unless you've turned it off) all you have to do is make sure you set up forwarders in your email account to forward them to someone who has the skill to resolve it

@Simon: thanks for the enlightenment: if the management is automatic, as I would expect it to be, I would have thought that, at the first indication of a database failure, the home page would be edited to inform people with a useful message and an ETA ...

Well, in defense (and it's no my place to defend) when you start getting database errors (providing you are taking notice) they come thick and fast, so you have to just look at a few and choose what seems to be the issue, then go to your server via ssh and use the TOP command to see whats taking all the resources, armed with both of those you can try to resolve the issue, but as you say, in the mean time it would be a good idea to put up a new index page showing you have a problem and are working on it, folk wouldn't get too pi55ed off then!
