Improvement: new category in the forum: "unsolved questions"

Hi All,

I wonder if it is needed to have a new category like "unsolved question", or "advance excel issues"?

If someone ask the forum, he want to get the answer quick and helpful, but for some reasons, there is no answer, or the given answers do not meet the requirement.

These reasons could be:

* The thread was posted when there are not many excel experts online. When they are online, this threas are put back, while the experts normally search for the new posts.

* The question is so difficult. But there may be solution somewhere, while the experts who can help, are not online, or can not read that thread.

I wonder if it is possible or not: after a specific numbers of posts (i.e 10 or 20 posts), if the OP is still not satisfied, he can be allowed to tranfer it to "Unsolved question" folder

I love excel and willing to learn from others in this forum. I usually give answers rather than give question.

In fact, I like to search the threads which are so difficult and unsolved to deal with. By this, I learn a lot, and have opputinity to share.

With this new category, I think the forum can be more helpful and more interesting.

Regards,
Quang PT

Re: Improvement: new category in the forum: "unsolved questions"

If someone ask the forum, he want to get the answer quick and helpful,
If a poster needs a quick answer he'd better refer to a pay site like Ozgrid. This is a free forum manned by volunteers working on their spare time and posters should be aware of that. If they don't have an answer within a reasonable time ( say 24 hrs) they can bump the question.

after a specific numbers of posts (i.e 10 or 20 posts), if the OP is still not satisfied
If a poster isn't satisfied after 20 posts, there is a good chance the project is too complicated or the OP adds requirements every few posts , or the OP doesn't really know what he wants or isn't wanting to make an effort.

You will also notice that OP's often post questions where members are requested to finish an entire project, the OP just sitting, waiting and criticizing the solution. The good part is that more than often the solutions provided on this forum are part of a project for which the Op gets paid by his customer !
In my opinion that is why so many OP's require a VBA solution for problems which can be easily solved with formulas, so that they can justify the cost and hide the solution form their customer .

@ Pepe Le Mokko,

I agree with the whole content of your post, since experienced it many times

You very well projected what the most of the OP's are following here...

Sometimes they not even interested to do copy paste of the suggested formula and simply says can you show it pls. If you generously do that by attaching the file with the code or formula then they simply download the file and go away without saying a word of thanks

Most of the time I felt frustrated for the time I spent (For Writing Code / Formula) for the OP who not even have time to acknowledge it.

Now simply adding them in my IGNORE LIST, which alerts me when I see the post of that OP again then it reminds me "DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME FOR THIS ONE, WHO DON'T HAVE TIME TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT", simply I skip that post

If your problem is solved, then please mark the thread as SOLVED>>Above your first post>>Thread Tools>>

Re: Improvement: new category in the forum: "unsolved questions"

1st off all, I am not against an "unsolved" forum, but I have a few reservations though.
- if it is a new member, they probably wont know that such a forum exists, or, if they do, how to transfer their thread to it.
- if a thread has been hanging around for a considerable amount of time, the OP has probably given up on it, else they would have (should have?) bumped it to the top for more attention?
- some threads hang around for ages because of un-realistic expectations from the OP, or, as Pepe said, they keep adding/changing their requirements (Im sure we have all seen/had those 1's...oh, I forgot to mention...or...oh, and can we also...)
- the "bump" is there to prevent threads from "falling through the cracks"

personally, I dont agree with that. If I see that there are pages and pages of threads, I will often start on the last page, and then work towards the 1st page.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Same here although it might not be the best way to get rep if you're after it

In my opinion, we dont need to transfer the thread to it. We just need to provide a link to the unsolved thread in the thread which collects all these links like the Call in the cavalry thread.
- if a thread has been hanging around for a considerable amount of time, the OP has probably given up on it, else they would have (should have?) bumped it to the top for more attention?
Sometimes OPs dont know that there is an option called Bump. They just wait for a couple of days and then open a new thread. I have seen so many duplicate threads like this.
If I have helped, Don't forget to add to my reputation (click on the star below the post)
Don't forget to mark threads as "Solved" (Thread Tools->Mark thread as Solved)
Use code tags when posting your VBA code:
Your code here
I like it, how did you do that?
