Issue - Viewing Profile Page Requires Login

In recent days viewing profile page of the members of this forum requires login. Because I generally do a google search by using my identity and just click my excelforum profile page which shows my about me profile.

But nowadays it is asking for login which is not the ultimate goal of the profile page.

At the same time in my settings area the access to profile page is set to Public only.

Requesting to fix it as soon as possible

have you made sure to store the login and be remembered when going to ExcelForum? Thatīs the major issue for causing this behaviour if I remember correctly - apart from company issues with security which canīt be handled from the forum software.

[ Edit ] I forgot to mention any new version of AVS which may be the cause for this behaviour as well. [ /Edit ]

Thanks for joining in and adding some points

But the issue is when the profile page is set to Public then it should not request Non Members to login for viewing the Profile Page.

Because it is happening in the recent days if I am not wrong it's happening after fine tuning action on Member List (Only Members Can View The Member List Now).

Previously it won't ask for login to view the Profile Page I believe...

Please correct me if I am wrong

public doesnīt mean public to anybody on the web but to any user registered in excelforum. Itīs the same with codes and attachments - they are available to forum members only. I doubt it to be a good idea to open up the profiles to the WebCrawlers who would benefit mostly of these and cause heavy traffic to harvest information thus causing other non-solved issues and resulting in disabling other features of the forum software.

I seen your editing after posting the Post #3 content.

If the abbreviation AVS refers to Antivirus then no it is not an issue since even in my mobile it is reacting in that way which don't have any antivirus scanning system and all.

No Holger, In the past days (Nearly 10 months) I was using this google search to view my profile without login and it was working fine in the past, believe me

I think you'll find that the viewing of profiles ahs now been set to members only viewing (even though you've not been notified of such), this will have been done in an attempt to correct performance issues that the forum is having. They are assuming that search engines/bots are hitting profiles and therefore diluting the resources available to members although a hit on profile.php is not as server intensive as serving a picture!!!

But I request the forum to unlock the access to profile page to Public View instead of keep it for members alone.

i like the idea i dont want the whole world to see my profile
but once you are logged in you stay logged in (if you choose)anyway so i cant see why you dont just create a shortcut to your profile in your browser

Also, why would you want the profile to be open to the whole world? I agree with what martin says.

Because (like many here) I am not the active member in this forum alone and I just do a google search with my identity to check the number of google page results.

From my point of view it is a happy moment to see the google result showing the profile page at the same time it is something sad that it requires membership to access the page.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts but at the same time if you don't want the world to see your profile then you can turn it off in your Settings.

Since there is an option in User CP>>Profile Privacy then let it be users choice like show or hide. If you want make it as OFF as default and those who wants it they can turn it ON.

Just sharing what I wanted to see and if majority of members disagree this thought then no issues I will accept the decision.

Get yourself some space on the web and post it there if you feel the need for that but leave this forum alone.

I understand private in a forum as being open to me, my friends, the staff, public as being available to all registered members of the forum, nothing more - thatīs it. Exclamation mark here!
