Deleting of only post to end Subscription to that thread as well

    Hi,

as a sample I asked for the adding of code-tags in http://www.excelforum.com/excel-prog...mn-macros.html. I agree that my posts can be deleted as soon as the tags are added or thread titles are altered (itīs not of any worth when OP complied) but I would kindly ask to end the subscription to that thread as well as there is nothing that I would have to monitor when my post is deleted.

Maybe take it to the TT-Team and ask if it is possible (or our admins should do it manually in our CP - like I stated: nothing more for me to do in that thread except for the usual hint to use Option Explicit everywhere in order to keep me from posting ).

Thanks for taking your time to read.

Ok, this is a lil tricky.

In your case maybe you want the subscription to be removed but there could be another user who does not want it to be removed. So how do we determine if it should be deleted or not?

    Hi, Arlette,

[ bad case of humour from my side start ]

[ tongue in cheek ] so you delete posts at free will? [ /tongue in cheek ] (add evil laughter here )

[ /bad case of humour from my side end ]

I know itīs tricky as if I remember correctly the key in the database needs to be released/deleted what is done when manually unsubscribing from a thread. Again: itīs only for those posts which are 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 in the Forum Rules (I hope I didnīt forget one here; yes, I will have a look at the Forum Rules once I posted this) which to me seem to make up the majority of my postings as of late.

Like I said: if thatīs the only post in a thread I would like the subscription to end with the deleting of the post - that clearly is my personal view and must not be in conclusion with other users nor must it be altered (I think it to be a nice amendment as the TT is not getting any serious work by now and we havenīt had much arguing about them as of late... although I remember something that has not been resolved by now ).

No you are not getting the point. For e.g. you put the post for rule 1 in thread 101 and i delete it for you because the rule has been complied with. Then another user - say xladept finds thread 102 with rule 3 violation and posts. Then his post is deleted after the user complied. Now what if xladept intends to help that user and would like the subscription to continue? How then does the inbuilt code for this task know if the subscription should be retained or removed?

Maybe for now you can put the text in the reported post - remove subscription, until we find a better way to solve this.

I am thinking of maybe having a button which says report post & remove subsc but we mods need to discuss more on this as it just came out of my head right now. Also i need to check with the tech team if its possible.

    Hi, Arlette,

good point indeed - if the only other post in a thread is removed the thread is shown in the unanswered threads again and may receive help from that side as well as a lot of users pass the threads which show some answers.

I may only speek for myself, and I have this attitude for years: what we are talking about isnīt much of help for the OP, and I donīt mind if this kind of posts gets deleted.

Okay, Iīll include a note in my posts from now on.

    2 ways to delete..
soft delete and the physically remove.
don't know if soft delete ends the subscription
and i don't know if self deletion and soft delete by mod is just the same.
maybe this can be use while the TT fixes the issue?
I think people forget the word "THANK YOU!!!!" Do you still know it???

@HaHoBe what you could do is when you provide your helping post go to thread tools at the top of the thread and choose "Unsubscribe from this thread" from the dropdown, now when your post is removed you wont get bugged by subsequent postings :-)

Re: Deleting of only post to end Subscription to that thread as well

    Hi, Simon,

thereīs a small problem with acting like that as from what I understand I should have an eye on the thread as I posted a Canned Reply (typisch deutsch, oder noch besser: preußisch / typically german or even more more fitting prussian ), if I donīt subscribe I wonīt feel the necessity to look after a thread.

On the other hand (again me, the stubborn German): if somebody else deletes my "contribution" to a thread I donīt want anything in my subscriptions regarding that thread, it was ended for me. Again: my point of view to this issue. Arlette mentioned that other users will definitely have a different opinion on this.

I took Arlettesīs advice and started to put in the extra note, hopefully I must not report these posts to be deleted . And Iīll look after my subscriptions a bit more regularly and cut those threads which do not match my expectations/memory still to be in there.
