Are there Any Excel(I.T.) gurus that could Assess My Excel Application?

Are there Any Excel(I.T.) gurus that could Assess My Excel Application?

i need to know how many hours on average would it take for an app i created, to be created by you(excel professional/guru)?
Lastly, how much per hour should I charge (you can give me a ball park or lowest to highest like from $x.xx to $x.xx)?

If you personally cant assist with this, please guide me to someone who could. Thank you guys in advance.

The application has VBA/macros/and formulas all within the same application.

***i will figure out a way to demo the tool for who ever is willing/and can give me such an assessment.

I would suggest that the time and effort you spent developing the "tool" is largely irrelevant. As would be the time and effort of an Excel/IT Guru.

If the tool does not address a business need, you will struggle to sell it. If it addresses a clear business need, you should work out the cost benefit to your (potential) customers. That is, how quickly will it pay for itself?

If, for example, it completes a task in, say, one minute, that normally takes maybe 30 minutes to an hour done manually, and that task is undertaken once every week day, it will save between 2.5 and 5 hours a week. If the person completing the task is paid £10 per hour, that's £25 to £50 a week. If it's a weekly or monthly task, pay back / break even will be longer. From that, you can work out a price that is attractive to your customers.

But, given that Excel is not a very secure environment, it would be difficult to protect your Intellectual Property. And why would anyone buy a tool when, with a bit of help from forums like this, and Google of course, they can probably develop something that specifically meets their needs themselves ... or pay a consultant to do it for them.

So, what does your application do? And what is its unique selling point? How did you identify the business benefits of the tool? What is your target market? Can it be installed easily by a non-technical user? Does it need ongoing support, development and maintenance? How will that be provided?

Thanks for the background information. Must have been a lot of work. 700 hours is pretty much 2 hours a night, every night, for a year. Or four hours a night, every night, for six months. Some dedication. Not sure where you're from but I'll guess the States. If, for example, you were to charge $50 USD per hour, you're looking at $35,000 USD ... which is quite a lot for a spreadsheet. And quite a lot to break even on.

An Excel specialist might take only half the time, or even a quarter but even that is $9,000 USD give or take. And you have the knowledge of the business whereas an Excel guy might have a bit of a learning curve ... so, swings and roundabouts. And, if your hourly rate is $25 USD, it's $4,500 USD

Hope that helps with the calculation.

    Regards, TMS

Re: Are there Any Excel(I.T.) gurus that could Assess My Excel Application?

    Again, thanks for the information.

My point was to put context around "700 hours" and the associated costs/charges. If there were two of you, that reduces the elapsed time but the cost remains as 700 times an hourly rate.

To justify that cost, you would need to put a business case to your employer to demonstrate the overall saving to the business based on historical data. It sounds like you have the information to calculate losses from mistakes, efficiency from time saved and potential increase in business, also from time saved.

Unfortunately, I cannot watch the videos as I do not have the necessary utility.
