Advise on selling a workbook: how much?$$

    Hi folks,

I've just completed a rather involved workbook that tracks an employee's pay.

The reason for such is the pay process is complicated and varies by employee, and I've found the company's software is performing a calculation in error that is amounting to about $600/person per year.

There are 12,000 employees, so we're talking a considerable amount of money.

I've never priced a sheet before? What's a good reference?

    As always, this place rocks.

Here is an old thread with some info that relates to what you are asking. The main thing, if you wrote this while on company time, your employer owns it, but read the read for more specifics.

You don't have to add Rep if I have helped you out (but it would be nice), but please mark the thread as SOLVED if your issue is resolved.

The problem isn't on layer 8 , It is because you didn't attach the URL for the thread you are pointing us to read.

$600 per person times 12000 employees.... that's $720,000 per YEAR. This applies to how many years?

If you sell that information to your company you'll be lucky to grab $10,000 for your effort.

I'm not litigious, but in this case I would contact a finance lawyer and discuss a Class Action agreement. Ask the lawyer for "final say on any settlement" agreements and an NDA so it can't be taken from you.

It's important to weigh the two critical priorities here....

    1) The people who are actually hurt by this are the employees and you need to make sure they are going to be compensated?
    2) What should you be paid for authoring the tools that reveal the injustice?

#1 is the primary goal, of course. But in a Class Action law suit the costs to the company not only flow to compensation, but sometimes punitive damages as well as legal costs. The threat of a legitimate and noble Class Action might just see all those additional costs avoided and become a sizable cash payment to yourself and your lawyer.
