The (actually not so) short version: Chap at Google submitted the above doc (full doc included in link #3) to the company internal message board, apparently that's the accepted culture within Google. The doc itself does make some sweeping statements regarding gender diversity that could be taken the wrong way and aren't backed up by any sort of evidence, however, it's nowhere near as inflammatory as the internet explosion that's taken place would suggest.
The document goes on to say there's a left leaning culture within Google and right leaning employees fear the shame culture and possible dismissal from voicing any opinions that differ from the left viewpoint......and on tuesday he was sacked. Which kinda proves his point.
The doc continues further into saying why the author feels women are in the minority at Google and makes several suggestions on changes to company culture that would encourage more women into the industry.
Since then, there has been an internet explosion with people all over the shop jumping on the band wagon in calling this fella every name under the sun, which, to me anyway, indicates they haven't actually read his article or only got as far as the opening statements which.....in a really badly worded way say that there are biological differences between men and women. Well duh.
There's even a 3 page rebuke on The Register in which the author blatantly states that anyone who makes a sweeping statement about a group of people (even if quantified by using the phase 'on average') is outright wrong and there is no job that men are more predisposed to than women and to suggest otherwise is sexist.

I've resisted the urge to reply: Yeah? Try becoming a sperm donor love, see how far you get.
Anyway, I feel the chap in question is certainly very misguided in his method of voicing his opinion but the backlash he's getting from the left leaning internet is unwarranted.....and he certainly didn't deserve to get the sack. It's as if everyone joining the witch hunt has read his words as "Women aren't as good as men and Google shouldn't be hiring them." Which is NOT what it says at all.
