Smile Is this clip real or what ... ?

    Hi all

Take a look at this clip. A friend sent it me via e-mail a couple of weeks ago, and I've looked at it several times since. Is it real or is it a hoax? Can anyone shed any light on it?

Like I said it came as an email attachment, so I don't know it's source (I have left the file name unchanged), but I have searched the web for it without success.

    Answers on a postcard ...

EDIT : Link removed as it's sucking all the bandwidth on my webhosting : if you would like to see the clip, e-mail me or PM me and I'll forward it on, no problem.

I'm no expert but i freeze framed it lots and there are what seems to be some discrepancies, the height of the plane at first filming, the length of time to get it back in shot but the plane (travelling at minimum of 140mph) to close but climbing without any extra engine noise, the shadow disappears before the plane has cleared the buildings, judging from the angle of exit between the buildings (if at all possible given the height) the right wing as you view should have clipped the building and when it lands in the sea not so much splash as spray but the waves rolling to the beach seem unruffled!

    Good clip though!

Like i said not an expert but an educated guess.

    Hi Simon

I agree with you on most of the points you raise (not sure about the shadow bit) but also the turning circle of the jet is far to tight as it seems to have turned a full 270° or so in the course of a couple of seconds.

It's still very well done though, I receive a number of mails with this type of stuff every week, and you usually just have a quick look, fire it off to a dozen or so others and then forget all about it. I just keep comng back to this one because it intrigues me so ...

Is this clip real or what ... ?

    Evidently, yes
....Many references cite Ethiopian Airlines flight 961, which did exist:

If it was real I'm just glad I wasn't on holiday in that hotel

    Hi Ron,

Thanks for the link, but I'm not actually sure that this was the one that you referenced. Following on from your link, I managed to find this QuickTime movie of Flight 961, which is a bit more dramatic than my offering.

oldchippy, it's not the hotel you have to worry about - it's the flight you have to sit through that gets you there

I didn't check the link but i think Ron is talking about the one that actually crashed in the sea where it yawed and the wing broke off as it hit the sea!

Dominic, it's definately a good one!, any others that are amusing or simply awe inspiring if possible link 'em again here!
