Martin, I'm VERY busy in late March / early April. What good is a forum without new recruits?
I suppose if people CBA putting their burthday in does it default to 1st Jan? Or maybe users-to-be don't read the instrctions properly and think that the DoB field is mandetory and don't want to put their real birthday so put 1st Jan.
That said, I have 13 (unlucky for some) nieces and nephews, and of those, two have a birthday on 31st Dec (I know it's not quite 1st Jan but it's close enough). And had my procreating relatives ceased their reproducing antics earlier, the figure would not be 2 out of 13, but could have been 2 out of 6.

I'm supposed to be going to a birthday party on the 1st Jan. Heaven knows what condition I'll be in after the night before if previous years are anything to go by!!!

I have two nephews and seven nieces. Both nephews were born on the same day (10 years apart). The infant brother of one of those nephews (my step-nephew-in-law-once-removed-on-my-wife's-side-of-the-family, I guess, since it's with a different dad not related to the family?) was also born on that same day. Now THAT is well orchestrated.
Paul, i notice, well at least from work that your reputation icon isn't showing, perhaps it might be better to use this url instead of typesomething.com

Not all forums are the same - seek and you shall find
Thanks, Simon. Is this any better?
Well, my birthday is exactly 9 months from Jan 1, so I must have been a really good party.

Hmmm, I was thinking that a disproportionate amount of individuals born on Jan 1 had high skills in Excel (some sort of spreadsheet zodiac thing) but then realized that just because they are registered users, doesn't mean they're proficient (perhaps the opposite). So we need to measure the proficiency of the Jan 1sters and map that against other days of the year to truly determine your spreadsheet horoscope. () Perhaps I can apply for a grant.

True, and I bet those icons change before the forum is restructured. Pint of Guinness anyone?if the forum changes icons...
Hmm, the MVP Summit used to be in March, didn't it?
Remember what the dormouse said
Feed your head
Did you know...
You need 23 people in the room to have 50% chance that 2 of them have birthday on the same day...
With 30 people it's 70%...
So.. If you see 30 people in the room don't hasitate to bet that 2 of them has birthday on the same day
In a group of 60, people, it is almost certain (99.2%) that two have the same birthday.
However... It's supposed that people's birthdays are equally distributed over the other 365 days of the year so this 1st January thing could collaps whole thing
More about Birthday paradox on wiki...
I was trying to organise an Excel Event and did have a notice up here but the owner freaked and removed it
Anyway, the Microsoft Excel Users Event hasn't had that much response because its difficult to get the word spread around, if interest doesn't pick up i'll have to cancel it which will be a shame, there was to be 3 or 4 MVP's presenting everything from what we know and love to the latest cutting edge developments.
But there again i'm not adverse to having a few beers in the honour of those that might have attended
Great, I read that birthday wiki deal, and now know I'm one of the naive folks that thought you'd need more than 23 people to have a 50% chance. I definitely wouldn't have pegged 60 as being the 99.2% chance.
now that we know the chances of having two people having the same birthday, I am curious as to the breakout of birthdays for this forum. Would one of you Mods who have access to that data, plot the frequency on a graph and post it to this thread? I know that I share my birthday with some interesting people.
107 B.C. - Roman orator, writer, and statesman Marcus Tullius Cicero was
born in Arpinum, Italy.
1892 - British writer John Ronald Reuel (J.R.R.) Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, was born in Bloemfontein, South-Africa.
1909 - Pianist and comedian Borge Rosenbaum, better known as Victor Borge, was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He started playing the piano when he was three years old.
1932 - American actor and Golden Globe winner Dabney Coleman, whose credits include Nine to Five, On Golden Pond, and Tootsie, was born in Austin, Texas.
1945 - Actress and bestselling author Victoria Principal, whose credits include the television series Dallas, was born in Fukuoka, Japan.
1956 - Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson, better known as just Mel Gibson and star of Lethal Weapon and Braveheart, was born in Peekskill, New York.
With whom do you share a birthday?

zbor, how did you collect that data?
My guess is he clicked the "Calendar" button in the header, than then copied the data for each month and arranged it in Excel.
