    How do I learn more

I am very interesting in making macros and have made a lot, which have proved to be extreme efficient. Basically they are made on recording, in combination with harvested/copied codes as well as handwritten codes.
I have examined the book Excel 2007 Macros by Gail Perry.

I would like to improve myself further and wondering how I can do it.
I have a book named Visual Basic 2008 by James Foxall (Sams Teach yourself in 24 hours) which is a 500 pages ‘starter kit’.
    Can this book be useful?

Is Visual Basic 2008 a separat program I have to buy? And if so, if I buy the VB-2008, can that be used in my excel versions.

As you see, I need to have some basic information regarding what to do.

    Saturn,

In my opnion the best way to learn (as I have been doing for the last couple of years) is to wirte your own programs. I know that may sound obvious but for me the greatest learning curve has been trying to get various 'bits' of my code working, and when you get stuck post a question on here as the guys here are incredibly helpful.
Over a period of time things that were at the start difficult become second nature.

    Thank you tryer
But my two questions are still not answered. How can I get most out of the book I have?, and is VB-2008 a separate program I have to buy?

    HI,

    Read these.

VB is like a superset language where you can open files and create forms and build your own programms to do things. VBA is the Visual Basic built into and underneith the Micorosft Office Products. VBA inside Microsoft Excel allows you to extend the Excel functions by doing loops and building forms. There is also VBA behind Word and Outlook and Access.

My preference is to start with Excel or Word and have a need to extend them to loops or mailmerge or doing more things than can be done with simple keystorkes. This would then lead me to VBA. VB is a little too general for me without the power of Excel or Word in front of it.

What you learn about Objects and Userforms in your SAMS VB book is like an overview of what can be done with VBA. I'd get a VBA book about Excel and learn from there first.

It looks like you can download a free, trimmed down version of VB here http://www.freewarefiles.com/Microso...ram_17931.html. I'd expect you to have to pay for the full version. VBA comew with and behind all the other Office applications.

I like the John Walkenbach books. I like his pace and code better than many other authors.
