    Stored Attachments

When I reverted to the old Forum Skin, to avoid any further bouts of snow blindness, a whole load of forum options suddenly became visible to my ageing Mk1 eyeballs.

One in particular came to my attention, Attachments.

Click on this and hey presto I discovered this
    Attachment Statistics
You are currently using 102.45 MB to store 1,181 uploaded attachments.

Advance to FAQs and I read this
.... There will be a limit to the file size of any attachments you make, as the forums should not be used as an extension of your hard disk! ...
What's the purpose of these stored files?

If I were to delete them, I take it that the will still be available in their relative posts.

Seems to me if they are safe to delete then this would free a fair bit of database space, if every member was to delete their own hoard, or is what I'm seeing just a link to the files?

My apologies if I should have asked about this earlier.

    Re: Stored Attachments

I'm guessing that you are the "owner" of the uploaded files ... it's in your post/response.

I suspect if you delete them they are no longer available.

It seems as though yiu have a limited time to delete them.

    Re: Stored Attachments

Aye, definitely the "owner", or at least "part owner", I found the list in my User CP under Miscellaneous.

There is an option to delete them, similar to the PM pages, but what it actually deletes, I'm not sure.

So, yes, deleting your attachments in the control panel will remove them from their original posts....

    Re: Stored Attachments

this came while back, we were limited to xxx mb of uploads, but as they are often integral to the solution the limit was increased drastically. often you had to trawl through your old posts and delete any duplicates etc. just to give an answer,

    Re: Stored Attachments

    Cheers guys.

    @ Colin
I had a feeling that would be the case, I should have thought of your test. Thanks.

@ Martin, glad I wasn't around in these days!

Maybe that's why the database crashes so often, it must have a fair amount of pretty useless workbooks stored away never to be seen again!

Anybody got a macro that can look through all my stored workbooks and delete the ones that are no longer needed, I have over a thousand of these, but I don't know what ones to keep. ...
Any helps with this wold be appreciated. ...

Now where have I heard that before? ...
